DESCRIPTION:Functionalized Microneedles for Tissue Sealing and Infection Co
 ntrol\nAbstract: ** Lecture will be given in English**\n\nMicroneedle tech
 nology is widely recognized for its transdermal drug delivery applications
 \; however\, its engineering and medical potential extends far beyond that
  purpose. The current study presents the example of employing the same tec
 hnological platform based on microneedle patches produced by micromolding 
 process to solve entirely different medical problems: internal tissue seal
 ing and localized infection control. First\, a bio adhesive microneedle pa
 tch was designed as an internal surgical sealant\, composed of crosslinked
  Polyacrylic acid needles and a Chitosan base. This patch offers a painles
 s alternative to sutures\, exhibiting high burst pressure resistance\, est
 ablishing robust mechanical and chemical interlocking with wet\, soft tiss
 ue surfaces for a leak-proof closure without secondary tissue damage. In a
 nother project\, similar microneedle architecture was utilized for treatin
 g localized skin infection. These microneedles were molecularly functional
 ized by the conjugation with Polymyxin B. This distinct application focuse
 s on the rapid\, localized adsorption and neutralization of Lipopolysaccha
 rides. This allows effectively preventing endotoxin-induced hyperinflammat
 ion and sepsis directly at the site. These two approaches demonstrate the 
 remarkable adaptability of the microneedle platform\, aiming to revolution
 ize biomaterial design and address unmet multifunctional needs.
