The ability to communicate science, present innovative ideas, and inspire others is just as essential. We are proud to see our graduate students excelling in both.
Over the past two months, four of our PhD students have received prestigious awards and recognition at conferences in Israel and abroad:
๐ Paz Shemesh, from the laboratory of Prof. Ayelet Fishman, represented our Faculty at the European Congress on Biotechnology (ECB 2026) in Antwerp, Belgium. She was selected to participate in “The Industrial Voice”, a scientific pitch competition where only five PhD candidates presented the commercial potential of their research to industry leaders. Three of the four judges expressed interest in her precision fermentation platform for recombinant protein production!
๐ Nitsan Yehishalom, also from Prof. Ayelet Fishman’s laboratory, received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the ICSBA – Israeli Conference on Structural Biology and Crystallography. His research revealed the structural mechanism behind improving the stability and efficiency of an enzyme for biodiesel production, contributing to more sustainable technologies.
๐ Shaked Katzelnick, from the laboratory of Prof. Dganit Danino, received the Outstanding Poster Award in Materials Science and Method Development at the annual meeting of the Israel Society for Microscopy (ISM 2026). Her research focuses on engineering protein superstructures and characterizing them using high-resolution electron microscopy.
๐ Emil Eshaya from the laboratory of Assoc. Prof. Maya Davidovich-Pinhas won First Place in the poster competition at the Beyond the Hype conference of Hecht Sustainable Protein Research Center, Technion
for his research on developing a healthier bigel-based alternative to margarine for bakery applications.
These achievements reflect something we strongly believe in: outstanding researchers are not only capable of conducting excellent science, but also of communicating it effectively, presenting it with confidence, and demonstrating its real-world impact.
