Striving and starving for excellence!!!!!
Last week our undergraduate students took front stage and won leading prizes in the European ”Develop Taste” challenge of the FOOD SOLUTIONS program managed by EIT FOOD mentored by Avi Shpigelman, Uri Lesmes, and Maya Davidovich-Pinhas.
This year the challenge urged the development of innovative healthy and tasty food products based on pea flour and a local side stream to boost sustainability. Student teams from Italy, UK and Israel had to develop products from ideation to a full prototype and business plan to be pitched in front of a professional panel on Nov. 8th in IATA (Valencia, Spain). Even though the Israeli teams presented their idea via zoom, we succeeded in communicating their “feel and taste” demonstrating their excellence, creativity, and agility..
EasyPeasy won the 2th prize with a vegan high protein creamy pudding with a crumble topping based on BSG side stream. The group included Neta Soto, Andrey Sarenko, and @Noam Cohen from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering and Noa Gotlib from the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences, Technion.
SouPeas won the 4th prize with a Mediterranean style extruded snack based on pea protein and sesame seed shell that can be added to soup (like “Shkedei Marak”). The group included Hagai Shechter, Shahar Blau, Gabriela Amiram, and Tomas Makowski from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering.
We would like to thank the organizers, task leaders, EIT FOOD EDUCATION program leaders, and the industrial partners for fostering our students progress and excellence.
