Dozens of undergraduate students – from first year through fourth year – took the stage at our Faculty today and proudly received their Certificates of Excellence in a special ceremony filled with pride, joy, gratitude, and also sorrow.
The ceremony, hosted by the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Assoc. Prof. Maya Davidovich-Pinhas, opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ester Segal, who praised the outstanding students for their achievements despite the many challenges of the past year: wars and military operations, extended reserve duty, and the transition to Zoom-based learning.
Prof. Segal also spoke about the absence of Liam Shrut, an outstanding fourth-year student who tragically lost her life this year while traveling in Thailand.
She was followed by Dr. Tzachi Reizel, who delivered a lecture on epigenetics and demonstrated how the research conducted in his lab may contribute to the fight against different types of cancer. Dr. Reizel also paid tribute to Liam, who had worked in his laboratory this past year as a project student.
Following a musical performance by Daniel Kol, a third-year student, the certificate ceremony began.
One particularly moving moment was the students’ expression of appreciation for Sharon Koren-Kadmi, our Undergraduate Studies Coordinator. In the words of one of the award recipients:
“There are not enough words in the Hebrew language to express my deep gratitude and appreciation for the hard work, dedication, attentiveness, and sometimes even the gentle push you gave me and many others throughout my crazy and wonderful years in the Faculty…”
We are incredibly proud of our outstanding students for their spirit of learning, perseverance, and excellence – values that are deeply embedded in the DNA of our Faculty.
A heartfelt thank you to Meirav Shrut, Liam’s mother, who accepted her daughter’s certificate of excellence, and to the entire Shrut family for honoring us with their presence at the ceremony.
