Insights on human diseases from 1600 eukaryotes genomes

The revolution in genome sequencing technology, informatics, and artificial intelligence, has driven humanity the ability to map, understand, and utilize biodiversity. With the most recent ambition of sequencing every complex species on earth, numerous genomes will soon be available to scientists. Various eukaryotes have developed extraordinary traits such as genetic resistance to cancer and hypoxia, increased life span, the ability to hibernate arrest metabolic activity, regeneration of lost tissue, and adaptation to severe environments. Comparing the genomes of these and other species can reveal genetic – phenotypic – environmental crosstalk and lead to genomic approaches to tackle fundamental bio-medical challenges. We have analyzed hundreds of eukaryotic genomes, evaluating simultaneously evolution of genetic elements across the tree of life .
In my talk I will demonstrate how we can systematically analysis as many as 1600 genomes in different evolutionary scales to study, pathways, genes, and amino acids. I will discuss how to identify new genes involved in DNA repair, drug repositioning, and orphan diseases.
